Typical Uses

CAV systems are common in many different types of buildings. It is primarily used because of its simple design and easy maintenance. This makes it a common system for use in smaller buildings. It is most popular in single zone buildings with only one temperature zone requirement, such as warehouses and repair shops. Buildings where all users and machinery can be served by a single temperature are ideal for CAV systems.

CAV systems can also be used in multi-zone buildings by adding reheating elements. These elements make the system more complicated, but allow for different temperature zones to be serviced by a single duct system by adding or removing heat from the space. These systems can still fit in small spaces and be designed to fit a variety of shapes and sizes. These systems are common in buildings with one main common area and a few separate spaces with differing temperature requirements. Examples of these buildings include doctor's offices and single family homes.

Finally, the more complex CAV system, mixed air, can be used in buildings such as retail buildings, hospitals, and in manufacturing applications. This system can provide different temperatures to different zone by utilizing multiple mixing boxes, and can also control air pressure. The ability to provide various air temperatures is important in the retail and office settings, and the constant air flow and pressure characteristics can be very important in the hospital and manufacturing settings.
